Morocco Crowned 2025 AFCON Champions By CAF After Senegal Forfeit

Morocco have officially been crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after CAF overturned the original result involving Senegal.

Senegal had initially won the final 1-0 after extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the decisive goal after Brahim Díaz missed a late penalty in regulation time.

However, the game was overshadowed by a major controversy late on, when Senegal reportedly refused to continue play in stoppage time following a penalty decision awarded to Morocco after Malick Diouf fouled Díaz in the box.

After months of review, the Confederation of African Football Disciplinary Committee ruled that Senegal’s actions constituted a forfeit, leading to the match being awarded 3-0 in favour of Morocco as stated it in Article 82 of CAF regulations

The decision means Morocco are now officially African champions for the first time since 1976, marking a historic and highly controversial end to the tournament.

The ruling is expected to spark widespread debate across the football world, given the unusual circumstances surrounding the final and its aftermath with the Senegal FA having already vowed to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
