About Festival

Eid-ul-Adha, otherwise known as the Feast of Sacrifice is used to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God’s command.

The festival falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month in the Islamic calendar, which is about 11 days earlier each year in the Western Gregorian calendar and coincides with the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Muslims on this day attend special prayers and gatherings at mosques and Islamic centres and embark on the sacrifice of an animal (usually a goat, sheep, or cow)- a large portion of which is distributed to the poor.
