MoH Constitutes Committee to Probe Death of Engineer Allegedly Denied Emergency Care

The Ministry of Health has constituted a committee to investigate the death of 29-year-old engineer Charles Amissah.

He is reported to have died on February 6, 2026, after he was denied emergency care.

In a statement, the Ministry said the committee was tasked with conducting a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and establishing the facts.

“The Committee will examine the sequence of events, the decision-making processes involved, and any contributing factors that may have led to delays or challenges in the provision of emergency care. It will also assess the adequacy and effectiveness of existing policies, protocols, and oversight mechanisms governing emergency health care delivery.”

It is expected to submit its report and recommendations to the Minister for Health on or before March 5, 2026.

The Committee is composed of Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, a Pathologist; Dr Henry Kwasi Bulley, a Representative of the Ghana Medical Association; and Dr Koku Awoonor-Williams, a Technical Advisor to the Health Minister.
The Ministry of Health further assured the public of its commitment to promoting integrity, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that all health facilities adhere strictly to established standards of emergency care delivery.

Death
The deceased was reported to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident at the Nkrumah Circle Overpass on February 6.

Reports indicate that although he was stabilised by Emergency Medical Technicians from the National Ambulance Service, he was allegedly denied admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and the Police Hospital due to the unavailability of beds.
