Midwifery Council Reports WhatsApp Group Promising PINs/AINs Renewal Without CPD Points to Police

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has reported to the police a WhatsApp Group promising practitioners PINs/AINs Renewal without CPD Points, a vital component of the Licence renewal process.
The police have been involved in undertaking a full-scale investigation to arrest the culprits behind.
Per the investigations of the Council, the WhatsApp Group with the name “AINS/PINS RENEWAL JOINT” was created by MTN phone Number 0548369250 with the registered name of Eric Kofi Bediako on December 29, 2024 at 12:37 pm.
“The said Eric Kofi Bediako claims he is able to facilitate the renewal of PINs/AINs for Practitioners without the required relevant CPD Points: a vital component of the Licence renewal process.
“The miscreant charges GHC 80.00 instead of the approved fee of GHC 71.00 for PIN/AIN renewal and the means of payment is mobile money transfer. The receiving number is MTN Number 0538138209 which is also Registered in the name of Eric Kofi Bediako,” the Council said in a statement.

Disclaiming any association with the social media group, the Council stated, “The Council disassociates itself from the said WhatsApp group.”
It highlighted that the said Eric Bediako has not been sanctioned by its outfit.
“The Council has neither commissioned nor contracted Eric Kofi Bediako, his associates, assigns or any other person or group of persons to assist the Council with PIN/AIN renewal for 2025.”
It therefore cautioned Nurse Assistants, Nurses and Midwives against patronizing that service.
Arrest
The Council indicated that aside from its personal investigations, the police have officially been notified to arrest the individual.
“Investigations have commenced to identify the Person(s) behind said WhatsApp group platform for necessary action. The matter has been reported to the Ghana Police Service to investigate and prosecute the person(s).”
Licensing Requirements
In its statement, the Council furthered that it is illegal to practice without a Licence or with an expired licence, adding that the CPD points requirement for Licence renewal for 2025 hasn’t been waived.
“The Licence Renewal mandate of the Council is one of the most important functions. It assures the public that any Practitioner who holds a valid licence is competent to provide safe and efficient care.”
