Meteors Leave Ghana Ahead Of U-23 AFCON
The Black Meteors of Ghana have left the country for Egypt in preparation for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be hosted in Morocco.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) reports that the first batch will arrive in Cairo on Monday evening with the second batch later on.
The players will be hosted by The Pharaohs of Egypt in a friendly game this Thursday at the Alexandria stadium.
This is a form of preparation for both teams ahead of the tournament.
After June 15 friendly, another will take place on June 19 before the team leave Egypt for Morocco for the tournament which will be staged from June 24- July 7, 2023.
27 out of the 29 squad are heading for Egypt leaving behind Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Koniigsdoffer who are scheduled to play among the Black Stars on June 18 in a qualifier against Madagascar.
Ahead of their departure, the President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku encouraged the boy to give out their best.
“If you want your names written in history this is the time. Always have the mentality that we are not going to Morocco to participate. You must go there and add your names to history…The whole country will be supporting you and will be yearning for something special from you.”
15 of the 29 called-up players were selected from Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs and tier clubs.
They include Danlad Ibrahim, Aziz Daari, Aaron Essel, David Oppong, Haffiz Ibrahim, Samuel Ashie Quaye, Emmanuel Adjei, Emmanuel Appau, Emmanuel Esso, Dominic Nsobila, Samari Abass, Sylvester Simba,Godfred Wakii, Augustine Randolph and Ebenezer Addae.
The remaining 14 were sorted from foreign clubs.
They are Fatawu Issahaku, Ernest Nuamah, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Jordan Amissah, Zubairu Ibrahim, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, Emmanuel Essiam, Nathaniel Agyei, Edmund Arko Mensah, Terry Yegbe, Emmanuel Yeboah, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salim Adam and Kwadwo Poku Mahala.
