Messi Has Ligament Injury; Club Announce
Inter Miami CF say Lionel Messi has suffered a ligament injury during the 2024 Copa America final that left him devastated.
According to a statement issued by the Major League Soccer (MLS) side, the tests were conducted by Baptist Health.
“After a medical evaluation, it has been determined that Leo Messi has suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle.”
The 37-year-old’s immediate availability to the club is in doubt with the club confirming that it will be determined by subsequent tests.
“The captain’s availability will be determined by periodic assessments and the progress of his recovery.”
Messi came off in the 64th minute of the 1-0 win that saw Argentina raise their 16th Copa America title against Colombia when he went down in a tackle.
The camera zoomed in to show the football star’s swollen ankle as he inconsolably and desperately wailed over his inability to help his team in the crucial game when the scoreline was 0-0.
He has since released a statement on Instagram expressing his gratitude to fans who reached out to him through all media to extend their sympathies.
“I want to thank everyone for the messages and greetings. I’m fine, thank God and I hope I can soon be on the field again enjoying what I like to do most.”
Messi joined Inter Miami from Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in June 2023.
