Melinda Gates Says Lack of Honesty Caused Separation From Bill Gates
Melinda French Gates, ex-wife of billionaire Bill Gates, has finally revealed the motivation behind the end of their nearly three-decades-long relationship.
The couple went their separate ways after their high-profile divorce in 2021.
In an interview on Monday with Stephen Colbert, she disclosed that the absence of honesty in their marriage was the principal cause of their separation.
According to her, the absence created a trust and intimacy void in their relationship.
“I learned to have a trusted relationship, which is what I wanted in marriage, both partners have to be honest with one another… And if you can’t, you can’t have intimacy and you can’t have trust. So in the end, I had to go,” she is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
She, however, failed to delve deep into the issues.
According to the philanthropist, the divorce episode of her life despite posing its own challenges, brought about growth and a necessary lesson.
“It is a big transition. And for me, while it was painful for sure, I ended up learning some lessons and there was some growth in there, too.”
The couple were married for 27 years and shared three children.
