MATCH REPORT: FC Samartex Edge Asante Kotoko 2-1 in Kumasi

FC Samartex have stunned Asante Kotoko by 1-2 in a very thrilling Ghana Premier League matchday 28 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium this morning.

The highly anticipated game ended abruptly on Monday evening due to a heavy downpour of rain in Kumasi.

Referee Nathan Anafo halted proceedings early in the second half after a pitch inspection revealed the surface had become unplayable due to excessive waterlogging.

The first half was goalless, though FC Samartex created the better chances. Goalkeeper Aziz Haruna Dari pulled off two excellent saves to deny Abdul Latif and Christian Agyenim Boateng, with one effort from the Timber Giants forward striking the crossbar.

Play resumed at 9:00am today and the visitors broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when former Black Starlets forward Christian Agyenim Boateng opened the scoring.

FC Samartex extended their lead in the 83rd minute as Emmanuel Mamah tapped in at a ose range from a well-delivered cross by Gabriel Osei to make it 2-0.

Asante Kotoko were awarded a penalty in the 91st minute, but captain Samba O’Neil missed from the spot. Just a minute later, Albert Amoah pulled one back for the home side, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

Asante Kotoko have now gone two games without a win and remain in fourth position with 43 points.

FC Samartex, on the other hand, returned to winning ways after a seven-game winless run and climbed to sixth place with 41 points.
