March 29, April 1 Declared Holidays

The Ministry of Interior has declared this Friday and next Monday as statutory public holidays in commemoration of Easter, a Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

A statement issued by the Minister for Interior, Henry Quartey affirmed the holidays and directed them to be observed accordingly across the country.

“The general public is hereby informed that 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 and 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒, which mark 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 and 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 respectively, are Statutory Public Holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country.”

The festival marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.

Easter-observing Christians commonly refer to the week before Easter as Holy Week, which in Western Christianity begins on Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
