March 29, April 1 Declared Holidays

The Ministry of Interior has declared this Friday and next Monday as statutory public holidays in commemoration of Easter, a Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

A statement issued by the Minister for Interior, Henry Quartey affirmed the holidays and directed them to be observed accordingly across the country.

β€œThe general public is hereby informed that π…π«π’ππšπ², πŸπŸ—ππ‘ 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐑, πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ’ and 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐒π₯, πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ’, which mark 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 π…π«π’ππšπ² and π„πšπ¬ππžπ« 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 respectively, are Statutory Public Holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country.”

The festival marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.

Easter-observing Christians commonly refer to the week before Easter as Holy Week, which in Western Christianity begins on Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
