Manhyia Palace Museum Ready to Receive Artefacts from British Museum – Manager Reveals
The Manager of the Manhyia Palace Museum, Mr. Justice Brobbey, has revealed that the museum is fully prepared to receive certain Asante cultural artefacts currently held at the British Museum.
In an interview with Opemsuo News Reporter, Kwame Awuah Nimfour, Mr. Brobbey disclosed that during Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II attendance at the Coronation of King Charles in the UK, he implored the British Museum to return all cultural artefacts belonging to the Asante Kingdom that were taken during the colonial era.
“Some representatives from the British Museum have already visited the Manhyia Palace Museum to observe the appropriate placement of these items. I am optimistic that the artefacts would be received before the celebration of Asantehene’s 25th anniversary next year, as a tribute to his achievements.”
Since its opening, foreigners have begun visiting the Manhyia Palace Museum as a tourist attraction.
Mr. Brobbey emphasised that the museum is open to the public, including individuals, schools, institutions, and tourists both domestic and international.
He encouraged the general public to visit the facility to learn about the history of the Asante Kingdom and its culture, noting that there are rules and regulations that visitors must adhere to.
