Manhyia NHIA District Had 300,000 Active Subscribers By 2024- Spokesperson

According to statistics, the Manhyia National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) District, had over 300,000 active subscribers by the end of 2024.
The PR Manager for the Manhyia District of the National Health Authority (NHIA), Frank Konadu Sarpong, in an interview on Nkwantannanso Show on Opemsuo Radio, said the figures are encouraging.
“By the end of 2024, we had over 300,000 active subscribers at Manhyia.”
This, he said, formed part of the 17% rate of total number of registrations that was undertaken across the country last year.
Throughout Ghana, he said there were 18.6 million active subscribers bearing cards as of December 2024.
In his view, this is a great loss for any citizen who hasn’t enrolled on the scheme.
He explained, “Anyone who hasn’t enrolled in the healthcare scheme is essentially losing money when he pays for his healthcare services out of pocket. This is because they’re already contributing to it through various charges on services like restaurant visits, goods clearance at the harbour, and hotel stays; it’s prudent to register and enjoy the full benefits when needed.”
According to him, informal sector workers pay not more than ¢50 for the premium while formal sector workers register at no cost due to their SSNIT contributions.
He stated that the scheme is functional.
