Manhyia Hospital: Otumfuo Meets Abandoned Emergency Unit and Diagnosis Centre
The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II found the Manhyia Government Hospital’s Emergency Unit and Diagnosis Centre eaten up by weeds during a visit on Thursday, February 29.
The facilities which sit side-by-side at foundation stages, he was informed, had been abandoned for years now with no hope for its continuity in sight.
Positioned by the King were the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Kwaku Kamaldeen Hussein and the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang to provide details about the stalled projects and the incentives for it.
Dr Hussein relayed some challenges they have had to endure for the past years due to the unavailability of a diagnostic centre and an emergency unit.
“We don’t have the Diagnosis Centre. We are only managing some few rooms to do our diagnosis test. The Emergency Unit we have is not up to standard so we are appealing to King to help us get our Emergency Unit, Diagnosis Centre, Administration Block and then continue the Maternity unit,” he told opemsuo.com after the tour.
In a separate interaction with opemsuo.com, Dr Tenkorang admitted he had no idea the cause for the stalled projects.
“We have to find out why.”
He disclosed His Majesty had charged him to document the projects for onward follow up with the government.
Among places inspected by Otumfuo were the Children’s Unit, Surgical Ward, the Maternity ward annex and the main Maternity Ward and the expansion project of the Maternity Ward funded by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation (OOTIIF).
According to Dr Hussein, the Maternity ward expansion is almost done and a handing-over ceremony is slated for next week.
“It’s almost done. We are going to hand it over next week. They are doing painting.”
