Man Swept Away by Floodwaters in Kumasi
Tragedy struck in Atafoa, located in the Kumasi Metropolis, as a 45-year-old man named Kwaku Aboagye went missing after being swept away by floodwaters during yesterday evening’s torrential downpour in the Ashanti region.
Courageously riding his bicycle, he attempted to cross the Owabi River, which had overflowed its banks, only to be tragically swept away by the powerful currents.
After the performance of certain rituals, his body was retrieved from the Owabi River today.
In an interview with Justice Obra Kwarteng, the Bantama Sub-Metro Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), on Nkwantannanso with Samuel Kwaw on June 22, he confirmed that Kwaku Aboagye had indeed drowned.
“I urge residents not to attempt crossing the bridge when the river overflows its banks,” he said.
