Mahama to Visit Victims of Ketu Tidal Waves

President John Dramani Mahama is set for a visit to the Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region on Thursday afternoon.

The head of state will depart for the region after the Independence Day celebration on March 6 at the Jubilee House in Accra.

A statement issued by Bright Kwashie Ege, Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said H.E. Mahama will visit the Amutinu, Agavedzi, Salakope communities affected by the coastal erosion suffered as a result of recent tidal waves.

The President will have a firsthand view of the devastating effect of the existential threat.

“This visit is a demonstration of the President’s commitment to standing in solidarity with Ghanaians affected by natural disasters…During his visit, President Mahama Will interact With the affected communities, assess the extent of the damage, and offer support to those affected.”

The statement furthered that the visit would reaffirm the government’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the challenges posed by tidal waves in the region.

“The government will work closely with local authorities, stakeholders, and the affected communities to develop a workable plan and implement effective measures to mitigate the impact of future tidal waves.”

It is reported that over 681 individuals from 113 households have been displaced with many more affected.
