Mahama Confers Ghana’s Highest Honour on India’s PM

President John Dramani Mahama has conferred the country’s highest state honour on the Prime Minister of India, HE Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister is in Ghana on a two-day working visit. The visit goes down in history as the first of an Indian premier in 30 years.

The award was conferred on him during a dinner at the Jubilee House on July 2, 2025, in recognition of his exceptional role in advancing Ghana-India relations.

In a Facebook post, President Mahama celebrated the relations between Ghana and India.

“I had the privilege to confer Ghana’s highest State Honour, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official visit.

“This award celebrates his distinguished leadership and significant role in strengthening the deep friendship and cooperation between our two nations.”

PM Modi took to his Facebook to thank Ghana for the recognition, adding that it was his responsibility to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

“I thank the people and Government of Ghana for conferring ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ upon me. This honour is dedicated to the bright future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and the historical ties between India and Ghana.”

He pledged India’s unwavering support and contribution to Ghana whom he described as a “trusted friend and development partner”.
