Mahama Co-chairs One Health Summit in Lyon

President John Dramani Mahama today co-chaired the One Health Summit in Lyon, France, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, where he delivered a keynote address.
In his address, the President reflected on the shifting global landscape, noting that “much of what we previously took for granted is now being questioned,” as emerging health threats from infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance to climate-related disruptions grow in complexity and intensity.
He underscored the urgency of the One Health approach, particularly for Africa, where human, animal, and environmental systems remain deeply interconnected.
Drawing on the continent’s rich heritage, President Mahama emphasised the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern innovation to address current and future health challenges.
Highlighting Ghana’s efforts, the President pointed to key national interventions aimed at strengthening preventive care and improving health outcomes, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to advancing coordinated, global responses to evolving health risks.
