Luis Rubiales Banned From Anything Football
Former Spanish Football Association President Luis Rubiales has been handed down a three–year ban from all football-related activities by the world football governing body FIFA.
In a statement, FIFA said its Disciplinary Committee found the 46-year-old breached Article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
It comes after he was initially handed a 90-day suspension by FIFA.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has banned Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), from all football-related activities at national and international levels for three years, having found that he acted in breach of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”
It assured, “FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respecting and protecting the integrity of all people and ensuring that the basic rules of decent conduct are upheld.”
Rubiales kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lip as she stepped up to receive her medal following Spain’s victory against England in the Women’s World Cup.
He came under stern public criticism following the incident with a call for his resignation, however, he defended himself saying the kiss was consensual and mutual, a statement Jenni, rebutted.
After taking an entrenched position against calls for his resignation, he bowed in September.
Meanwhile, Jenni has filed a legal complaint against him for sexual assault.
