Lincoln University’s Withdrawal of Mahama’s Honorary Degree is an Honour- Assemblies of God, Ghana

The Assemblies of God, Ghana, has postulated that the decision by Lincoln University to withdraw its honorary degree for the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, is an honour in itself.

In a statement, the church referenced Acts 5:41, saying it had found joy unconfined as its member had been found worthy of global disdain for his ironclad stand against LGBTQ+ practices.

“From our perspective, Lincoln University’s decision does not dishonour, but rather honours President Mahama and the Assemblies of God, Ghana, to which he proudly belongs.”

It further recalled how President Mahama articulated his position on homosexuality as being “scripturally or biblically forbidden,” morally degrading, and culturally unacceptable prior to his reelection to the Presidency in 2024.

This position, the church has observed, remained resolute and unshakable.

It therefore urged all its members serving in the public or private sectors to be encouraged by ‘this spectacular example and to never compromise their spiritual principles or moral values under any circumstances.’

Meanwhile, it requested that the Christian community pray for the country to resist the LGBTQ+, which carries incalculable consequences.

On Tuesday, Ghana’s Embassy in the USA confirmed that the University had withdrawn its decision to honour President Mahama after its attention was drawn to his position on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill currently before Ghana’s Parliament.
