Lands Ministry To Probe Attempt To Sell Speaker’s Home
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor is determined to get to the bottom of the allegation that the official home of the country’s Speaker of Parliament was nearly sold to developers.
This is a form of reassurance to Parliament, a statement released by the House on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 stated.
“We are encouraged by the decision of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to investigate this matter and hope the investigations will establish who attempted to sell, and who the potential buyer was.”
According to the House, the move will ensure public confidence in state institutions.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin during a breakfast meeting on Monday, November 20, disclosed his official residence at Cantonments in Accra was almost sold out.
According to him, the Lands Commission identified it as his residence during registration.
“Many of you don’t know that even the residence of the speaker was almost sold to the private sector. Actually it was given out, it is when they went to register that the Lands Commission identified that, it was the residence of the speaker. Luckily I was inside so it was safe,” he said.
In their statement on Wednesday, the Parliament confirmed that residences reserved for the Parliamentary Service personnel have fallen into the hands of private developers in a similar fashion.
