Kyekyebiase Dikro Fined at Kumasi Traditional Council Meeting

The traditional caretaker of the Kyekyebiase has been handed down a fine following a vain invocation of the Great Oath.

He appeared before Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council on December 11, 2025, alongside a woman who is challenging the legitimacy of his royalty.

Nananom heard how attempts by Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Asafohene- to whom belongs Kyekyebiase- to supervise the enstoolment of a female traditional ruler were hindered by the Odikro through the Great Oath.

According to the Odikro, the candidate was not a royal, and therefore contracted his Kyidomhene, Opanin Asante Yamoah, to invoke the oath on his behalf.
He explained that at the time of the invocation, he was out of the country.

From this revelation and referencing an earlier statement by the Asantehene, Baffour Kantankrankyi, Otumfuo Kyeame, stated that the oath they invoked was ultra vires, explaining that he has no right to bypass the oath of Asafohene for the Great Oath of the Asantehene.

He was therefore fined.

Acknowledging the outstanding issue, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, assured the parties of the needed attention and resolution.

“The outstanding issue is legitimate, yet you took the wrong approach. We will resolve it, but first perform the needed rites concerning the great oath. You are a subordinate to Akyeamfuo, and so you are bound by his oath.”

Dispute
Maame Tutuwaa is laying claim to the stool, asserting the current occupant of the Dikro Stool is not a royal.

This position is fiercely contested by the Odikro
