Kwasi Kwarteng: Strike Action Is Inevitable

Public Relations Officer for Ghana Education Service Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng has asserted that a strike is an action that is invariably abound to happen.

Following the strike that was embarked by some teacher unions in Ghana specifically National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-G), Mr. Kwarteng has stated that according to the unions, the main reason for the strike is for Ghana Education Service to improve on their cost of living allowance.

Mr. Kwarteng said, “we are all aware of the financial crisis that has hit the world, he made reference to 2007 when similar issue occurred”.

He added up by saying “the Ghana Education Service and the Teachers Union have scheduled a meeting today to talk things out for peace to prevail in the country”.

Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng touched on a letter that was released by the Ministry of Education after the Teacher Unions embarked on strike. He said the third paragraph of the letter directed all heads of senior high schools which include all management teams to write off the strike to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
