Kumawu Election: Polling Agents under Trees
Peter Otukonor Boamah, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised concerns about the positioning of polling agents during the Kumawu by-election. According to him, some agents were asked to sit under trees instead of being closer to the Electoral Commission (EC) officials to effectively monitor the proceedings.
Speaking in an interview on Nkwantannanso, he stated, “They moved the agents to sit under the trees instead of being close to the EC officials to monitor events. The presiding officer initially refused to allow the agents to be close to the EC officials.”
However, he mentioned that the presiding officer later agreed to allow the agents to be closer, but some officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) insisted on keeping them at a distance, leading to chaos.
Expressing further concerns, he claimed that the NPP was engaged in vote-buying in Kumawu. He alleged that there was a specific filling station where the NPP had set up a desk, and voters were showing pictures of their ballots to receive money for voting in favor of the NPP.
“The NPP is sharing the taxes in Kumawu,” he said.
Boamah firmly stated, “NDC will not wait to be cheated,” indicating the party’s determination to address any irregularities or unfair practices during the election.
Ernest Yaw Anim, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been declared the winner of the Kumawu by-election by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
Mr. Yaw Anim secured a total of 15,264 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Kwesi Amankwah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as two independent candidates.
