Kumawu By-election: Basoa Lobbied for Road Projects Before Demise – Akufo Addo Clarifies

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has refuted claims that the NPP government is buying votes with road construction in the Kumawu constituency ahead of the by-election on Tuesday.

There have been reports of ongoing massive road construction in the area since the Kumawu constituency seat was declared vacant by Parliament and for that matter a by-election to be held in accordance with the constitution.

“The ongoing road infrastructure is not a form of vote buying. It is an effort to fulfill the late MP’s request for road development,” President Akufo Addo clarified during the final rally in Kumawu.

He further disclosed that the late MP, Philip Atta Basoa, had actively engaged the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon Kwasi Amoako Atta, for the construction of Kumawu road networks. He highlighted the late MP’s commitment to improving the road infrastructure in the constituency:

“The ongoing road construction is a result of Hon Basoa’s efforts to improve the road networks in Kumawu,” the president emphasized.

Addressing the crowd, President Akufo Addo urged the people of Kumawu to show their support by voting overwhelmingly for the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Mr. Ernest Yaw Anim, to replace their late MP. He praised Mr. Anim’s qualities and suitability for the position:

“Mr. Ernest Yaw Anim is a capable candidate who will continue the late MP’s vision for Kumawu,” President Akufo Addo affirmed.

Commending Mr. Anim for his leadership and efforts to reunite the party in Kumawu within a short period, he expressed optimism about the future:

“The victory is starting from Kumawu in the by-election tomorrow, God willing,” he added, expressing his belief in the New Patriotic Party’s dedication to retaining power in 2024.

With these clarifications, President Akufo Addo aims to dispel the notion of vote buying and highlight the late MP’s role in advocating for improved road infrastructure in Kumawu.
