Kumasi Cultural Centre to Undergo Major Renovation

The Kumasi Centre for National Culture is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation this year, the Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Mr Wakefield Ackuaku, has said.
He made this known to the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on January 14, 2026, during the first Awukudae Festival of the year at the Manhyia Palace.
He stated that the profound impact of the Centre merits its renovation.
“Whenever we want to learn culture and tradition, we come from Accra to Kumasi because this is the hub of culture and heritage. It has well preserved our heritage, and so we have to make it appealing.”
He also said the renovation had become imperative as the NCC would this year mark its 75th anniversary.
In addition, he announced plans to hold the December to Remember event in Kumasi from December 21 to January.
The Centre, established in 1956, is a vibrant cultural hub, showcasing the rich traditions and heritage of Asanteman.
It is a treasure trove of Ashanti culture, featuring craft workshops, traditional music and dance performances, and a museum with royal regalia and historical artefacts.
