Kotoko Suspend Winger Joseph Amoako Over Viral Audio
An audio of Joseph Amoako ranting about his disappointment in fans’ “disrespect” for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club players has landed him in an indefinite suspension.
The viral audio featured the 20-year-old making some “unacceptable” statements about the Club and the struggles of the players.
The winger is heard saying, “The disrespect for the players is too much bro. You can’t do this anywhere in the world. It’s really disrespect to talk to players and even exchange words with players. You think only Kotoko is losing games? You think only Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana? Do you know what the players are going through? Do you even know? Do you even care to know what the players are going through? Will you be happy if you are working two months three months without being paid?
“We are killing ourselves for the club and if you are not ready as a supporter to support the Club, then what are you doing because you have no idea what the boys are going through…You have no idea what is going on in the club. You are just looking at the surface…It’s just like you pay, you go to the stadium.”
Management of the Club called his action a “misconduct” and announced his indefinite suspension in a statement.
“This is due to his misconduct on social media which the club finds unacceptable.”
His suspension pends a final determination through the club’s disciplinary procedures, the statement noted.
Amoako first joined the Porcupine Warriors in 2021 on a three-year deal, however, in February 2022, he joined Helsingborgs IF in Sweden on loan in a one-year contract.
The contract was terminated before it expired in January 2023 after being charged with rape in November 2022.
He was found guilty but was released after an appeal. He rejoined the Porcupine Warriors earlier this year after returning to the country.
