Kotoko Management To Engage Board Over Compensation Of 2017 Accident Victims
The management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has reacted after public condemnation over its failure to compensate players who were involved in an accident in line of duty six years ago.
The conversation about their compensation reignited last week and garnered a backlash from a section of the public.
In response to the criticisms, the Club has released a statement explaining why the compensation has taken long.
“Upon assuming office in 2020, Management and the Board sought to help find a solution to deal with this matter without success.”
It disclosed that representatives of the victims are being engaged to develop a roadmap for the payment, adding that the Board will be engaged once more to deal with the issue.
“Management shall engage the Board again on the matter. In anticipation of approval from the Board, we have started engaging representatives of the victims and will come out with a short to medium term plan to alleviate their situation in the coming days.”
On July 12, 2017, players and some staff of the Club had an accident while returning from Accra after a match with Inter Allies.
It is reported that the vehicle carrying the players ran into a stationary truck at Nkawkaw claiming the life of the Club’s Equipment Officer, Thomas Obeng Asare.
Players including Mahama, Ahmed Adams, Ollenu Ashitey and Michael Akuffo as well as head coach at the time, Steve Pollack sustained various degrees of injuries.
