‘Kotoko Can Still Win the League’ – Opoku Nti

Asante Kotoko legend Samuel Opoku Nti, popularly known as “Lord Zico,” has expressed confidence that the Porcupine Warriors can still win the Ghana Premier League title this season, insisting the race remains open despite their recent struggles.

In a recent interview on Kumasi-based Kessben FM, the former Kotoko goal machine and club icon stated that everything depends on how the team recovers from their current woes, urging the players and technical team to show character and fight back strongly.

“It’s not over with 12 games to go. However, how they’ll pick themselves up, forget what has happened, and move on is very important. It isn’t easy for the players at this stage.”

Kotoko currently sits in fifth position on the league log with 44 points, trailing runaway leaders Medeama SC by nine points after a string of inconsistent results that saw them drop out of the top four.

The 1982 Africa Cup of Nations winner and ex-CEO of the club emphasized that with plenty of matches left in the campaign, a good run of form could see the Baba Yara Stadium outfit close the gap and challenge for the crown once again.

Opoku Nti’s words come at a crucial time for Asante Kotoko, who are looking to bounce back under interim coach Prince Owusu following the resignation of Abdul Karim Zito and the painful Super Clash defeat.

The Porcupine Warriors will travel next to Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium in what promises to be a very important Ghana Premier League fixture, as they aim to secure maximum points and kickstart their revival in the title race.
