Kotoko Assist Coach Charged for Referee Comment
Coach David Ocloo has found himself in trouble with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over a comment made after Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s defeat to Heart of Lions during the weekend.
The FA has charged him for misconduct per Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.
It states, “In addition to matters referred to in any other regulation, it shall be a misconduct if a club, Director, official, Referee, Assistant Referee, or Player or member is proved to have done or permitted or assisted any of the following to be done: Commit any offensive act not provided for above or make any offensive statement either verbally or in writing or is responsible for any conduct or any matter which is in the opinion of the Association, ungentlemanly, insulting or improper behaviour or likely to bring the game into disrepute.”
In a communiqué, the FA said the comment allegedly constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.
“David Ocloo has been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 for comments made about Match Officials in a post-match interview following Asante Kotoko’s league game against Heart of Lions.”
He has until the end of February to respond to the charges.
10-man Kotoko suffered a 1-0 defeat to Kpando Heart of Lions after Nicolas Mensah got booked twice in the game.
In an interview after the game, Coach Ocloo is quoted to have lamented, “I wouldn’t want to talk about the referee, but we all saw what happened. I think if we want our football to progress, our referees need to step up.”
