Kotoka Terminal 2 to be Fully Utilised- GACL

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced plans to fully utilise Terminal 2 of the Kotoka International Airport to ease the strain on Terminal 3.

Engagements are still ongoing with relevant stakeholders over the decision by the Management and Board of the company, according to the Managing Director of GACL, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.

Mrs Opare notes that the decision has been necessitated by the growing number of Airlines working out of Ghana.

“It is the decision of the Board and Management to utilise the use of Terminal 2 of Kotoka International Airport to its optimal level, by having some more of the airlines operate from Terminal 2.”

This is anticipated to decongest Terminal 3, ease long queues and enhance passenger travel, for both passengers and airlines.

“Details on this will be shared with the general public once stakeholder engagements are completed,” the GACL added.

Currently, Terminal 2 is used as a domestic terminal while Terminal 3 serves regional international and long overhaul operators.

The Company communicated this in a statement welcoming the move by Virgin Atlantic Airlines to resume operations in Ghana after they suspended their services 11 years ago.

It released a statement on Tuesday saying, the return of the airline underscores confidence in Ghana’s aviation industry and significantly boosts efforts to establish Ghana as the preferred aviation hub and leader in airport business in West Africa.
