Königsdörffer Replaces Inaki William In AFCON Qualifier Squad
The head coach of Ghana’s senior National team, Chris Hughton, has announced Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer as part of the squad for the country’s fixture against Madagascar in mid-june.
He replaces Inaki Williams who has ruled himself out over what he says is a pain he has been experiencing in his right knee for a while now.
According to the Athletico Bilbao forward, he had decided to play until the end of the season, however, “after having spoken to the medical services, we’ve decided to stop and solve the problem to be 100% for the preseason.”
This triggered the inclusion of Königsdörffer on Monday for the upcoming AFCON qualifying match against Madagascar and he will join the 23 players already named to begin camping in Accra on June 12.
The players will train for at least four days in Accra before departing for Antananarivo on Friday, June 16, for the clash against Madagascar.
The squad expected at the camp include Ati-Zigi, Joseph Wollacott, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Majeed Ashimeru, Salis Abdul Samed and Edmund Addo.
Also are Denis Odoi, Alidu Seidu, Gideon Mensah, Patrick Kpozo, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Alexander Djiku, Nicholas Opoku, Joseph Painstil, Osman Bukari, KamalDeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah.
Ghana currently sits atop Group E alongside Madagascar, Angola and Central African Republic.
Hughton’s side secured 8 points after four games recording two wins and two draws.
The match will take place at Stade Kianja Barea in Antananarivo on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at 17:00 GMT.
