Kofi Adams Calls for National Support After Pledging Two Months Salary to Ghana Sports Fund.

The Member of Parliament for Buem constituency in the Oti Region and the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Eddie Adams, has called on Ghanaians after he personally contributed to the Sports Fund.

The Parliament of Ghana in December 2025 passed into law the Ghana Sports Fund (Act 1159), which intends to establish a legally backed, dedicated financial vehicle to end decades of underfunding and ad-hoc transfer of resources.
The Bill stipulates that profits from the fund will be utilised to enhance athletic infrastructure and promote capacity building for sports professionals and administrators.
The Bill highlighted its funding source, which includes allocations approved by Parliament, proceeds from special sports lotteries, and 10% of fees and charges collected by the Gaming Commission of Ghana from sports betting activities.
Kofi Eddie Adams inaugurated an 11-member Governing Board of the Ghana Sports Fund in January of the year, which he described as a big milestone in the country’s sports development financing.

The member of Parliament for Buem constituency during last Thursday’s floor of Parliament notified the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament and other members that the first contribution to the Sports fund has been made, and he also pledged his two months’ salary in support.
“Right Honourable Speaker, I’m happy to inform this August house that the first contribution to this fund has already been made, the National Investment Bank has demonstrated leadership with a donation of GH100,000.00; that gesture must not stand alone, it must mark the beginning of a national movement. In that spirit, I would donate two months of my salary to Ghana’s Sports Fund, effective February 2026.”

Mr. Adams, on his official X account, called on all Ghanaians to help, and said that contributions to the sports fund must not end at the doors of Parliament.
“But this must not end in Parliament. Sports belong to all of us: government, corporate Ghana, the media, our federations, our communities, and every young athlete who dreams of opportunity. The Ghana Sports Fund is now in place. Let us grow it together. Let us invest in our talent. Let us build a system that gives certainty, fairness and long-term support to Ghana’s sport.”
