KMA Defers Demolition Exercise around Baba Yara Sports Stadium

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has postponed a planned demolition exercise around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to April.

The planned demolition of unauthorised temporary structures, containers and garages was scheduled for today, February 5, 2026; however, in a statement, the Assembly said it had extended it due to the intervention of Nana Amakomhene and Nana Dadiesoabahene.

The traditional leaders reportedly appealed for additional time to enable affected persons to relocate their structures and livelihoods voluntarily.

The demolition will now take place on April 6, 2026, the Assmebly announced.

“Management wishes to stress that this extension is granted purely as a humanitarian measure to allow affected persons ample time to relocate voluntarily.”

It urged all owners and operators to take full advantage of this extended period to remove their properties within the stipulated timeframe.

It stated that the exercise is part of KMA’s broader efforts to enhance public safety, improve sanitation, ensure free movement, and restore order and the aesthetic value of critical public spaces within the Kumasi Metropolis.
