KMA Collaborates With EU On Waste Management; Yet To Establish Recycling Plants In Kumasi – Mayor
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s Mayor, Hon. Samuel Pyn has disclosed that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has collaborated with the European Union on how to ensure proper waste management in the city.
According to him, this action will see the initiation of waste recycling plants in the city to renew the waste into valuable and usable items, compost, or fertilizers.
Speaking on Opemsuo Radio with Agudey, the KMA Mayor said, all the necessary arrangements have been put across to see to the commencement of the project after visiting Spain for special training on the said project.
He said bigger containers shall be provided at vantage points at Adum, Kejetia, Mbrom, and other areas which would be collected often to the site. Piloting has taken place in the said areas to obtain a feasibility study on the project. There shall be four mini stations for the project with two major factories within the city which will be done within a period of three years.
Hon. Sam Pyn stated that the Assembly will be training individuals to gain skills in the waste management process in order to equip them to embark on this project. Successful trainees would be given a startup capital of about 3000 Euros to support them in handling the project.
The KMA shall hand over the project to private partners to manage the project, he added.
