Kejetia Market Traders Raise Alarm Over Structural Cracks

Traders at the Kumasi City Market, popularly known as Kejetia Market, have raised concerns about visible, widening structural cracks within the facility.

At a press conference on March 31, 2026, the President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, Nana Akwasi Prempeh, expressed fears over a potential catastrophe, as he called for urgent government intervention.

The Federation further cited overstretching of the building’s capacity as the key cause, as it condemned overcrowding within the facility originally designed to accommodate just over 8,000 lockable shops and stalls.

He decried the reallocation of spaces meant for emergency access to tabletop traders.

He also blamed the situation on poor management, lack of maintenance, and prolonged neglect by authorities.

The traders, therefore, called for urgent intervention by the government and relevant authorities, warning that the situation, if left unaddressed, could escalate into a national security crisis.
