KATH Orthopaedic and Emergency Directorate Halts New Patients’ Admission

The Orthopaedic and Emergency Directorate of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has temporarily halted the admission of new patients.

This was contained in a memo issued by the Chairman of the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA), Dr Michael Leat to the management of the hospital.

The decision comes on the back of water shortage in the hospital.

“This memo is to formally inform management of the decision taken by the Orthopaedic and Emergency Directorate to temporarily halt the admission of new patients until the availability of water is restored,” the memo cited by JoyNews read in part.

According to the memo, the current lack of water has reached a critical point, compromising both patient safety and healthcare delivery and thereby the suspension of new admissions.

Dr Michael Leat, however, noted that already-admitted patients will continue to receive medical attention.

“The directorates will continue to manage existing patients to the best of our ability while prioritizing safety and hygiene.”

Urging Management to take immediate steps to address the water crisis, he extended a sincere apology for any inconvenience the development may cause.
