Karim Zito Gives Update on Emmanuel Kotei’s Comeback
Kumasi Asante Kotoko contested Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Week 20 of the 2025/26 season.
The Porcupine Warriors had revenge on their minds when they played Holy Stars because they had lost to them earlier in the season.
Karim Zito and his squad were again not happy with the decision of the referee, depriving them a credible goal scored against Bibiani Gold Stars and needed to win against Basake Holy Stars to keep alive their quest for the league crown.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko showed sign of anger for a win during the early minutes of the game, Saka Dauda and Peter Amidu Acquah produced incisive runs at the flanks.
The host team got a penalty after Boniface Blay had fouled Saka Dauda inside the penalty box which Samba provided the opener from a spot-kick at a half hour mark in the game.
Coach Karim made tactical alterations to his setup, Albert Amoah replaced Patrick Dogo and while Emmanuel Kotei took the spot of Lord Amoah at the 45 minutes and 64 minutes respectively.
The two additions of Albert Amoah and Emmanuel Kotei were in the optimum moments leading to Asante Kotoko doubling up the goals at the 74th minute.
Kwame Poku scored in the 84th minute to secure Asante Kotoko’s ninth victory of the season, thus settling the score at three goals against the visiting team.
Karim Zito responded to Atakorah Raphael of Opemsuo Radio regarding how long-injured player Emmanuel Kotei is adjusting to the team.
“Okay, he has been away since he began rehabilitation. He’s been going to training and watching what we do. I tested him when we went to play at Agona only to get a better understanding of his predicament because I arrived to meet him injured,” Zito admitted.
He further stated that he had instructed Asante Kotoko’s medical team to have the player ready for the second round of the season.
Zito added, “I gave the orders after the test that I will need him, I know his problems and I talk to him. I am aware that he is capable of attacking; however, he is unable to track down his position. He was ready that was my reason for adding him to the matchday squad or else I could have tried another player.”
