Junior Doctors Lay Down Tools On Tuesday

Junior doctors will embark on a phased industrial action beginning on Tuesday, the Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced.
This is in response to the non-payment of salaries to over 200 junior doctors who have worked for 10-14 months without pay; a pause in salary payments; and a halt in the posting of over 800 medical officers.
In a statement, it explained that “Several medical officers who were previously on payroll have had their salaries stopped without explanation. We also have over 800 medical officers who have been awaiting posting for the past 1 year, 4 months.”
It said efforts to address these issues after repeated engagements with authorities have proven futile.
The association has therefore directed all members to withdraw all outpatient services effective October 7 and emergency services effective Friday, October 10, 2025, until further notice.
It, however, made an exception for inpatients until discharge.
It warned, “but no new cases will be admitted.”
It added, “The Association wishes to make it clear that the continued exploitation of junior doctors will no longer be tolerated.”
