Juaben MCE Nominee Acquitted on 26 Corruption Charges

The High Court in Kumasi has acquitted and discharged Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka who was nominated as Municipal Chief Executive for Juaben by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on charges of corruption in relation.

The nominee was captured in a video in September 2021 allegedly demanding a refund of monies he had disbursed to the former after they failed to confirm his nomination.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) initiated an investigation in November 2021 and charged him with 26 counts of corruption in May 2022.

On June 22, 2022, the accused person took a not-guilty plea, and his trial commenced in October.

In a judgement delivered on May 26, 2025, Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori held that the video did not establish that the monies were intended to influence the votes of the assembly members.
