Jordan Ayew Takes Over As Black Stars Captain
After a decision to sideline Thomas Partey from his squad, head coach Otto Addo has named Jordan Ayew, the brother of ostracised Black Stars player Andre Dede Ayew, as the Captain of the team.
The coach initially intended to allow Thomas to continue the role in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger in mid-November; however, his omission from the squad called for a replacement.
He therefore thought Jordan was the best bet.
“Now as we know, Thomas is not there for the next two games, I decided to take a new captain for the team which will be Jordan,” he said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, in the October qualifiers, West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus shouldered the responsibility of the captain.
Addressing concerns over his decision to go for Jordan instead of the 24-year-old, Addo said the former Ajax star is not prepared enough for it, adding that he would have to “to learn and grow into the role”.
In the meantime, he said Kudus will work alongside Alexander Djiku as the deputy captain.
“I want him to stay and be the second captain alongside Djiku but Jordan will take over from now.”
We need to work to keep the small chance we have.
