John Dumelo Wants Independence Day Celebration Cancelled
Actor and politician John Dumelo has called on President Akufo-Addo to cancel the upcoming national Independence Day celebration to be held in the Volta Region of Ghana.
His wish doesn’t affect just the national celebration but the regional and district-level celebrations as well.
“respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional and district Independence Day celebrations?”, he requested.
In a tweet on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, he said the country is in difficult times and therefore this suggestion will save the country some money for important projects.
In December 2022, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan made the headlines when cancelled celebrations to mark the country’s 61 Independence Day on December 9 and directed the funds earmarked for the event to be used to construct school dormitories for eight primary schools in the country.
The actor requested that the President rather hold a televised broadcast on March 6, 2023, to address the country in marking the independence of Ghana.
Greetings @NAkufoAddo, respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual “fellow Ghanaians” broadcast on tv. This will save us millions of cedis. Thanks so much.

Ghana’s national 66th Independence Day celebration will be held in the Volta region this year.
Last year, it was held in the Central region.
