Jane Naana To Present Mini Budget – NDC Caucus
The soon-to-be majority group in parliament has allayed concerns about the country’s lack of a budget to fend for the country’s expenditure early next year.
In a press statement issued by Minority leader, Cassiel Ato Forson said the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation will be presented on January 7 by the Vice President-elect, Prof Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang.
“There is no cause for alarm! Even though there will be no Minister of Finance on January 7, 2025, the Vice-President can present to this House the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation any time after swearing-in on January 7, 2025, and Parliament will be properly constituted to expedite approval of the same.”
It however condemned the President’s failure to comply with Article 180 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana to present the expenditure in advance of appropriation.
“In the spirit of a good transition, we had expected that the outgoing President acting pursuant to article 180 of the Constitution, would act in good faith and bring before this House a proposal for expenditures to cater for the first quarter of 2025. This was very important because the Appropriation Act for 2025 will not come into force on the 1st of January.”
This, he said, is leaving the public services uncatered for in the first quarter of 2025.
