It’s Ridiculous; Sammy Gyamfi on “Lavish” Trip Sponsored by NDC Funds

The National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has clarified the video of himself and his wife on a trip outside the country, calling commentaries around it “ridiculous”.

It was reported that he had gone on a two-week lavish trip to Miami with his wife at the expense of the NDC. Some media outlets reported that he was “blowing” some $42 million from the party’s coffers at Betsy Hotel, a 5-star hotel, located on Miami Beach.

Reacting to the allegations, he said, the video mistakenly shared online was from his honeymoon and not recent as claimed in the publications. Though he said he had been to Miami a couple of times, he denied knowledge of the said hotel.

“I’ve never been to the hotels they talked about. I’ve never heard of them. I’ve never stayed in Miami for two weeks. I’ve been in Miami a couple of times just like many other States in the US. The video they are circulating is one of the videos from my past trips with my wife. I believe in the immediate aftermath of my marriage.”

“These are just lies which are the product of demented minds. They claim I am in Miami lodged in the most expensive hotel with some $42 million from the NDC for two weeks seated here. They wrote the story on Friday. Saturday I was at Mawuena Treberh’s funeral. Sunday I was at Suame for the Regional Organiser of NDC’s mother’s funeral.

“Even before that, on Wednesday I was in Accra. I hosted NDC 360 from our studios in Accra. Everybody watched me. I hosted John Jinapor discussing the power sector, free SHS and others. On Thursday I was in the High Court supporting and solidarising with my good brother and friend Hon Ato Forson. So when was I supposed to be in Miami, staying at an expensive hotel? It’s just ridiculous. Purely nonsensical. No one person with a sound mind will believe this.”

He indicated that the NDC depends on routine fund-raising programmes to undertake 99% of its activities.

He is therefore determined to sue all pro-NPP news outlets behind the “false” publication and circulation.

“Some of those people behind these write-ups are some hungry foot soldiers, they don’t know me. They have nothing and so if you decide to take action against them, it will be in vain. But there are some people who will be taken on relative to this matter and the issues will be settled in court. People like Asaase Radio belonging to Gabby Otchere Darko. ABC News belonging to Gordon Asare. I won’t treat them like I will treat an NPP foot soldier. They will come and explain in court where they saw me in Miami and the party money they claimed I took.”
