It’s ‘Beyond Our Hands’ to Try to Suppress Kwame Nkrumah’s Fame – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has postulated that none of the attempts to suppress the fame of the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, will succeed.

According to him, this was witnessed during the era of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“In the last eight years, attempts have been made to suppress the role Kwame Nkrumah played in gaining our independence. Indeed people have said he is not the founder of our nation and that not he alone could have founded our nation,” he said at the launch of the Black Star Experience at Independence Square on May 1, 2025.

He believes all such attempts will fail, as Nkrumah’s fame has already reached global recognition.

“However you try to suppress the name of Kwame Nkrumah, it has gone beyond our hands. Kwame Nkrumah is a worldwide icon recognized by the whole world.”

He attended a meeting with the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, during which the latter shared a statement by Nkrumah that had stayed with him from childhood in that regard.
