It’s About Time We Believe In The Locals-Otumfuo Bemoans
His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has bemoaned the practice of foreigners heading local companies.
According to him, it is unfair for such positions to be given to foreigners when the locals are capable of doing so.
“I have belief in the locals to take up high positions; to the government, it’s about time we have belief in them, we have the talents and it belongs to us and we have then people to do it but how can we also do same like the whites, getting concessions and taking it to the stock exchange to raise money. We have to begin to think about that as a nation because every white coming in for investments applies for a loan it’s just like seeking for loans at the bank for collateral. So my engineers and miners let’s develop the means to do this because you can do it.
“Blacks have done it before yet a foreigner will be brought in to take over, my heart can’t take this. The trend is a factor to the high cost of production per ounce, overheads and all”, he added.
“Australia, Canada do they bring in people from outside, don’t they do it themselves? Why can’t we do the same rather all we do is yes sir, yes sir?”
The Asantehene said his belief in the locals to manage some high positions is high and that it’s about time that is honoured.
He added that the means the foreigners use to come up with investment funds is regular.
He raised these concerns when AngloGold Ashanti came visiting to wish him well on his birthday as well as inform him of their new foreign head who will be introduced officially in a few months’ time.
