Inflation Drops to 5.4%

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported a drop in figures for the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
It pegged the rate at 5.4% for December 2025.
Compared to the rate in December 2024, the Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, said prices are rising much more slowly than a year ago, giving households and businesses greater stability to plan, spend and invest with confidence.
“This means that Ghana has moved from a period of intense price pressure to one of growing price stability.”
Food inflation fell to 4.9% in December 2025, down from 6.6% in November 2025, while Non-food inflation eased to 5.8% from 6.1%. Meanwhile, inflation for locally produced goods declined to 5.9%, with imported goods dipping to 4.3%.
Regionally, the Eastern Region recorded 11.7% inflation rate, the highest, while the Savannah Region recorded -1.2%, the lowest.
Items including charcoal, green plantain, smoked herrings, cinema and cultural services and ginger pushed the inflation for December 2025.
According to Dr Iddrisu, they contributed over 40% of overall inflation.
Meanwhile, he said items including garden eggs, fried fish, pawpaw, kontomire and cabbage recorded sharp declines as they collectively pulled down inflation by 8%.
The Government statistician urged the government to take advantage of the price drop to invest in food storage.
