Independence Square to be Closed From Tuesday
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has announced plans to close down the Independence Square in the country’s capital to the public.
The site which has been hosting the swearing in ceremonies of Presidents will be closed from Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
A statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Mark Okraku Mantey noted that the measure is in preparation towards the swearing in ceremony of the President-elect, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
It highlighted the closure will take effect from the midnight of 31st December 2024 to 8th January 2025.
A part of the statement read, “…the Independence Square and its environs will be closed. The facilities will be corded off by National Security.”
He therefore urged the general public and tourists to take note.
“The general Public and Tourists are to take note and comply with the directive.”
The next President of the fourth Republic will be sworn into office on January 7, 2024, after he decisively won the December 7 Presidential election.
Mr Mahama will be making his comeback into power with this victory.
