‘I’m Not Retiring From Football Anytime Soon’ – Andre Ayew

Former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has been playing professional football for almost twenty years now but isn’t considering retiring anytime soon as he still feels strong to continue playing at the highest level.
The former Marseille and Swansea City star spent the first half of the 2025/26 campaign as a free agent but chose Dutch gold NAC Breda to challenge himself again and help the club fight against relegation in the Eredivisie.
The 36-year-old Black Stars icon signed with the Yellow-Blacks in January following his departure and he has already featured in six appearances for his new team, though he has started only one game so far.
In a recent interview, the experienced attacker brushed aside retirement talks, insisting he is not thinking about hanging up his boots anytime soon as long as his body keeps responding well.
“I think when the moment comes, your body will tell you. That’s how I see it. For now my body is not responding negatively at all, so I need to continue working. The matches will get me fitter and make me feel better.”
“I never thought about stopping because the six months I didn’t play was not for football reasons. It was personal reasons I had to deal with. I needed to clear my mind and come back mentally and physically strong.”
With his leadership, energy and vast experience, the most-capped Ghana player ever will hope to build more game time at NAC Breda and keep his name in contention for a potential national team return in the ongoing campaign.
