I’ll Promptly Revoke All Mining Leases Granted By Akufo-Addo Gov’t- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has committed himself to revoking all mining licences that were issued by the immediate past administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This was announced at the swearing in ceremony of some approved Ministers including the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, at the Jubilee House on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

In his address, the President said this was going to be done in conjunction with the institution of a ban on the Mining in forest reserves.

“The government will ban issuance of mining leases in all forest reserves and promptly revoke all leases issued under the previous government.”

Meanwhile, he dispelled reports that his government had sanctioned three groups to mine in the Tano Anwia forest reserve.

“The government has not given any person or group of persons authority to mine in these reserves.”

President Mahama thus charged the Lands and Natural Resources Minister and the Attorney General to arrest and prosecute such individuals.

“The Ministers for Lands and Natural Resources, the Interior, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice must take immediate steps to ensure the arrest and prosecution of any person or group of persons mining in forests.”
