IGP Petitioned Over Alleged Killing of Yamfo Healthcare Worker By Police

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunoo has been petitioned to investigate the alleged killing of a healthcare worker at Yamfo in the Ahafo Region.

Mr Richard Agyei Antwi tragically lost his life during a violent altercation between local youth and the police.

The violence reportedly resulted in the vandalism and destruction of the Yamfo Police Station by some angry youth, consequently leading to the deployment of military reinforcement from Sunyani to restore calm and order.

According to the Yamfo Youth Development Association, the Formed Police Unit of the Duayaw Nkwanta Police, allegedly brutalized the deceased to dead.

It thus called for an immediate investigation.

“We respectfully request that you address our concerns by conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the healthcare worker’s death.”

The group also called for remedial action and a thorough overhaul of policing strategies and operations within the municipality as it decried the use of police officers outside Yamfo for the said operation.

It also wants the IGP to provide “full assurance to the public of an improved policing environment.”

“I trust that the police team will handle this complaint with the utmost seriousness and professionalism.”

Meanwhile, Gideon Boako, the MP for Tano North Constituency called the incident “extremely disturbing”.

Urging the residents to remain calm, he called on the Municipal Security Council, to conduct thorough and impartial investigations into the circumstances surrounding this incident and ensure that justice is duly served.

According to him, one other resident sustained a life-threatening injury after being allegedly shot by a military officer and is currently on admission at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

“As a Member of Parliament for the area, I find this incident extremely disturbing as it involves not only the loss of precious lives and property but also has the tendency to compromise the peace and unity that the Yamfo community and its environs have been enjoying over the years.”
