IGP Apologizes to Family of Lady Who Drowned in Takoradi Hotel Pool
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued an apology to the family of Lois Abena Koranteng, a 24-year-old woman who tragically drowned in a swimming pool at a Takoradi hotel on June 8, 2024.
The apology came in response to the family’s dissatisfaction with the level of communication from the police during the investigation.
Lois was found unconscious in the hotel pool and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. An autopsy conducted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital identified the cause of death as asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning.
The IGP personally reached out to her family on July 10, acknowledging their concerns about the police’s engagement.
A police statement read, “Meanwhile, following the dissatisfaction expressed by the family of the deceased in sections of the media regarding the extent of Police engagement with them on the matter, the Inspector-General of Police yesterday, 10th July 2024, reached out to the family via a telephone call and rendered an unqualified apology to them for the lack of sufficient Police engagement.”
The police have reiterated their dedication to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding Koranteng’s death and ensuring that the family remains informed throughout the investigative process.
“He assured them that investigation into the incident is still ongoing and also informed them of the readiness of the Police to visit them at their convenience and update them on the investigation done so far.”
“Police will continue to work closely with the family as investigation into the incident continues.”
